Family Therapy
A collaborative space for your family system to heal, reconnect, and evolve together
Families are more than the sum of their parts. When one person carries stress, change, or unresolved emotion, the whole system registers that. Whether the tension shows up in arguments, silence, sibling rivalry, or caregiver-child distance, family counselling offers a space where all voices can be heard, patterns can shift, and connection can be restored.
At Connected Counselling, we welcome families across Winnipeg who are navigating change, difficulty, or transition — and who are ready to explore not just 'what’s wrong,' but what’s possible together.
When Family Counselling Can Help
Family therapy may be beneficial if you’re observing:
-
Recurring conflict, arguments, or emotional reactivity
-
Disconnection between caregivers and children or teens
-
Parenting challenges that feel stuck or draining
-
Sibling tensions or blended family adjustments
-
Impact of major life transitions: separation/divorce, moves, health changes
-
Grief or loss affecting multiple family members
-
Feeling like you’re “walking on eggshells,” avoiding the hard conversations, or disconnected from each other
Sessions are safe, paced for your family’s comfort, and led with warmth, respect, and structure —helping to pave a clearer path forward.

Our Approach: Systems-Oriented, Attachment-Sensitive, Trauma-Informed
We combine multiple therapeutic lenses to offer deep support for the family system:
-
Family Systems Therapy: Exploring how each member’s behaviour and emotions affect the whole system.
-
Emotion & Attachment-Based Work: Helping each person feel seen, heard, and understood.
-
Nervous‐System Awareness: Recognizing how stress, overwhelm, and trauma show up in children, teens, caregivers, and the family unit.
-
Co-regulation & Parent Support: Giving caregivers tools to regulate, connect, and guide rather than just manage.
-
Developmental Sensitivity: Integrating age-appropriate language, participation, and involvement for children and teens.
Our sessions honour both the practical and the relational: we talk about what’s happening now, and we help shape how you want to live together in a healthier way.
Session Length & Fees

Who Attends & How We Work
We offer family counselling to families of 2-5 people.
Your family’s therapy may include:
-
All caregivers and children together
-
Parents/caregivers alone (for strategy, support, and alignment)
-
Sibling sessions
-
A mix of joint + separate sessions depending on your current needs
We also empower families to decide how they want to participate — we’ll collaborate on who attends, when, and how often.
Is Family Counselling Right for Us?
It’s natural to question whether family therapy is the right fit.
You’ll know family counselling is likely beneficial when you sense:
-
The current way of interacting keeps repeating the same difficult patterns.
-
Someone in the family is struggling and the others feel the ripple effect of it.
-
You want something different — a way toward connection, rather than just managing chaos.
Even if you don’t have all the answers now, that’s okay. After the first session, your therapist will help gauge the best path forward: deciding who attends, pacing, and goals — all in a way that feels respectful and hopeful.
